Ana Santos Almeida, PhD

Ana Santos Almeida, PhD has held a variety of roles in the scientific field. In 2021, they began as the Director of Research & Development and Principal Investigator at Tiny Health, a science-based platform that profiles a mother and baby's microbiomes. Ana also serves as a Freelance Consultant Microbiome Expert. From 2016 to 2021, they worked at Bio-protocol as a Reviewer, at APC Microbiome Ireland as a Senior Researcher, Chair of the APC Postdoc Association, Marie Curie Research Fellow, and Senior Postdoctoral Researcher, at Native Scientist as a Project Manager for Portuguese in Ireland, and at University College Cork as an Invited Lecturer. From 2013 to 2016, they were a Postdoctoral Fellow at Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory's Cancer Center, researching cancer immunotherapy, live-cell and intravital imaging, polychromatic flow cytometry, and mouse models of breast and pancreatic cancer. From 2008 to 2013, they were a Postdoctoral Fellow and PhD student at Institut Pasteur's Molecular Microbial Pathogenesis Unit, researching the role of Klebsiella rhinoscleromatis capsule in IL-10 production and host and virulence factors leading to rhinoscleroma, respectively. In 2007, they were an Undergraduate student - research trainee at Instituto de Medicina Molecular's Malaria Unit, researching the influence of bile acids on liver-stage malaria infection. In 2006, they were an Undergraduate student - research trainee (volunteer, part-time) at ITQB-UNL's Microbial Development Group, researching mechanisms that govern the assembly of the bacterial spore in the model organism Bacillus subtilis. In 2005, they were an Undergraduate student - trainee (volunteer, part-time) at Hospital de Santa Maria's Bacteriological Laboratory.

Ana Santos Almeida, PhD, began their educational journey in 2004 when they earned a Bachelor of Science in Microbiology from the Faculdade de Medicina da Universidade de Lisboa. Ana then furthered their education by obtaining a Doctor of Philosophy in Microbiology and Immunology - Health Sciences from the Pierre and Marie Curie University in 2012.
