Thomas Bates

Thomas Bates has a diverse work experience spanning several companies and roles. Thomas is currently working at Tola as the Head of Design, where they started in December 2023. Prior to this, they worked as a Design Engineer at Tola from August 2022 to December 2023. Thomas co-founded Duffel in November 2017 and served as the Chief Design Officer until July 2022. Thomas also had a failed attempt at starting their own studio called Mais ou menos estúdio, where they worked as a Founder on design and development projects from July 2015 to September 2017. Thomas worked as a Product Designer at Palantir Technologies from July 2014 to July 2016. Thomas was also a Product Designer at ustwo™ from September 2013 to July 2014, where they worked on high-quality concepts for a large payments company. Before that, Thomas worked as a Designer at GoCardless, initially as a contractor during their final year of studies and then briefly full-time after completing their degree, from December 2012 to June 2013. Thomas joined as the second designer and worked across both product and sales teams. Thomas began their professional journey with an internship at Airlock from April 2010 to August 2010.

Thomas Bates earned a Foundation degree in Art and Design from the University of the Arts London in 2008-2009. Thomas then pursued a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) in Graphic Design from the same university, graduating in 2010-2013. In 2018, Thomas completed a program called S18 at Y Combinator, although the field of study is not specified.
