Chief King is a lifelong resident of Kearny. He graduated from Kearny High School and Rutgers University where he earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting.
Chief King is a 2nd generation Police Officer in Kearny, following his Father who retired as a Deputy Police Chief. He joined the Kearny Police Department in 1985 and worked in the Patrol Division and as a motor vehicle accident investigator. He was promoted to Sergeant in 1994, Lieutenant in 1997, Captain in 1999, Deputy Chief is 2004 and Chief in 2017. Before becoming Chief he was responsible for supervising the administration of the Chief’s Office, Overseeing the Planning and Training division, and command of the Patrol Division. He currently serve as the Emergency Management Coordinator for the Town.
Chief King is a past member and President of the Kearny Board of Education and currently serves on the Supervisory Committee of the Kearny Municipal Employees Federal Credit Union and as a board member of the Kearny Voice, a Veterans outreach and referral service.
Chief King is a bagpiper with the St. Columcille United Gaelic Pipe Band where he participate in local parades, community events and both local and international band competitions. He was honored as the Grand Marshal of the 2011 West Hudson St. Patrick’s Day parade.
