Welby Thumwood

Plant Manager, Fort Saskatchewan at TransAlta

Welby Thumwood, C.D., P.Eng. has extensive experience in both the Canadian Armed Forces and the energy sector. From April 2006 to the present, Thumwood has held various leadership roles within the Canadian Armed Forces, including Officer Commanding of the 25 and 33 Engineer Squadrons, as well as Regimental Operations Officer for the 41 Combat Engineer Regiment. In addition, Thumwood has been involved in civil military cooperation planning and the supervision of soldiers. Concurrently, since June 2013, Thumwood has served as Plant Manager at TransAlta's Fort Saskatchewan facility, overseeing business transformation initiatives for the coal generation fleet, while also performing engineering roles that include supervising projects related to rotating equipment and turbines. Thumwood holds a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of New Brunswick.
