Erica Gelfuso has a diverse work experience in the field of research and academia. In 2005, they started their career at Universidade de São Paulo, where they conducted research involving stereotactic surgery, drug administration, and behavioral tests on rats. Erica also managed animal husbandry and welfare during this time.
From 2011 to 2020, Erica held various positions at the University of Ribeirão Preto. As a visiting lecturer, they taught Biosafety and Toxicology in the Health and Safety Engineering course, planned and delivered practical lessons in the laboratory, and guided students in their final papers. Additionally, they conducted research for their PhD, developing, conducting, and analyzing in vivo studies on rats. Erica also performed stereotaxic surgery, drug administration, behavior tests, and histopathological tests. As an animal laboratory technician, they supported administrative, technical, and academic activities, provided training on biosecurity and animal handling, and managed facilities and animal care.
Between 2015 and 2016, Erica worked as a PhD research fellow at KU Leuven, where they performed voltage-clamp tests and cRNA synthesis and purification in electrophysiology experiments.
In 2017, Erica became a lecturer at the Federal Institute, teaching in high school and graduation courses, planning and delivering practical lessons in the laboratory, and guiding students in their final papers. From 2018 to 2019, they worked as a research collaborator at the Federal University of ABC, and in 2019, they started working at the University of Rennes 1 as a researcher. Erica'sresponsibilities included planning, conducting, and analyzing in vivo studies on rodents, performing stereotaxic surgery, behavior tests, EEG, and drug administration, as well as animal husbandry and clinical monitoring of experimental animals.
Most recently, Erica joined TransCure bioServices in 2022 as a research laboratory technician, where they execute projects in the areas of oncology, inflammatory and infectious diseases. Erica is also a member of the Animal Ethics Committee.

Erica Gelfuso has a diverse education history. Erica started their higher education journey in 2003 at Centro Universitário Barão de Mauá, where they earned a Bachelor's degree in Biological Sciences in 2006. Following this, they pursued a specialization in Biotechnology at the same institution from 2007 to 2009.
In 2009, they attended Centro de Capacitação Profissional, where they obtained a degree as an Occupational Safety Technician. This provided their with knowledge and skills in ensuring safety in various occupational settings.
Moving forward, Erica continued their academic pursuits at Universidade de Ribeirão Preto. Erica earned a Master's degree in Biotechnology Applied to Health from 2011 to 2013. Subsequently, from 2013 to 2017, they pursued a Doctorate in the same field at the same institution.
Following their doctoral studies, Erica engaged in professional development in the field of teaching. In 2020, they attended Federal Institute to enhance their teaching skills for distance education.
In recent years, Erica has focused on expanding their knowledge and expertise in animal research. Erica attended Instituto de Investigação e Inovação em Saúde (i3S) in 2020 to receive the FELASA C certification, which includes functions A, B, and D related to working with laboratory animals. Continuing their research-oriented education, in 2021, they pursued courses related to pain management in laboratory animals at Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique (CNRS). Additionally, at Instituto de Investigação e Inovação em Saúde (i3S), they attended a course on experimental design and analysis of data for research with animals in the same year.
Most recently, in 2021, Erica enrolled in a Postgraduate program at Faculdades Oswaldo Cruz, focusing on Clinical Research. As of the available information, their education at this institution is ongoing and expected to conclude in 2022.
