Tom Rooney has a diverse work experience in the field of energy efficiency and sustainability. Tom started their career as a DSM Program Manager at NSTAR, where they managed various energy efficiency programs and represented Boston on DOE's Urban Consortium Energy Task Force. Tom then worked as an ENERGY STAR Programs employee at the US EPA before joining Citizens Conservation Services (now Ameresco) as a Project Manager. In 2005, they became the Chairperson of the Committee on Sustainable Practices in Portsmouth, NH, where they led the city towards increased sustainability. Currently, they are working as a Vice President at TRC Companies, Inc., where they collaborate on setting the strategic direction of the Advanced Energy group and designs and manages energy efficiency programs for various markets across the country.
Tom Rooney has a Master of Science (MS) in Environmental Sciences from the University of Massachusetts Lowell, which they obtained from 1998 to 2000. Tom also holds a Bachelor of Science (BS) in Mathematics from the University of New Hampshire, which they earned from 1982 to 1986. Additionally, they have obtained several certifications, including Envision Sustainability Professional from the Institute for Sustainable Infrastructure in 2015, Certified Measurement & Verification Professional from the Association of Energy Engineers in 2006, LEED Accredited Professional from USGBC Massachusetts Chapter also in 2006, and Certified Energy Manager from the Association of Energy Engineers in 2004.
