Joshua Joyce has a diverse range of work experience in the scientific field. Joshua started their career in 2013 as a Lifeguard at Melbourn Sports Centre, where they gained experience in customer care and health and safety provision. In 2015, they worked as a Laboratory Assistant at Intertek Melbourn, where their responsibilities included testing pharmaceutical products and working as a lab technician.
In 2016, Joshua had two roles at Durham University. Joshua worked as a Research Biologist, where they developed skills in PCR, DNA and protein purification, and protein interaction analyses. Joshua also worked as a Biology Open Day Ambassador, guiding students around the department and sharing their experience.
Joshua then participated in the Gatsby Plant Science Summer School as a student in 2016, where they gained an intensive education in plant science research and improved their research capabilities. In the same year, they also received a Sainsbury Undergraduate Studentship at the Gatsby Charitable Foundation, where they focused on the mechanisms of cucumber mosaic virus and acquired skills in RNA-based techniques, virus manipulation, and aphid handling.
In 2018, Joshua joined the John Innes Centre as a PHD Student, conducting research on plant defenses against aphids and investigating plant signaling mechanisms. During this role, they gained a deep understanding of plant defenses and their responses to insect attack.
Joshua worked as a Tutor at The Brilliant Club in 2020, where they developed and taught a plant science and agriculture program to secondary school students. This experience enhanced their teaching, communication, and assessment skills.

Joshua Joyce attended Durham University from 2015 to 2018, where they obtained a Bachelor's degree in Biology/Biological Sciences. Prior to that, from 2013 to 2015, they attended Hills Road Sixth Form College, acquiring A Level Qualifications. Before their time at college, from 2008 to 2013, Joshua attended Melbourn Village College where they completed their GCSEs and BTEC. In addition to their academic achievements, Joshua also obtained several certifications. In June 2016, they received the PADI Open Water Diving Qualification from PADI. Furthermore, in October 2014, they obtained their driving license from the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency (DVLA).
