Director Of Product at Truewerk

Jim Trombly has over 20 years of experience in the apparel and outdoor industries. Jim began their career in 1999 as a Product Line Manager at MSR - Mountain Safety Research, where they developed the Pocket Rocket stove, generating $5M in revenue. In 2003, they moved to Cascade Designs as the Brand Manager for Therm-a-Rest, where they developed innovative products with lighter fabric and foam constructions. In 2006, they were hired by Patagonia as a Product Line Director, where they completely revamped the technical apparel line, resulting in 25% revenue growth and improved profit. In 2007, they joined Canada Goose as the Merchandising Director, helping to establish the brand in the US & European outdoor markets. This resulted in the brand growing to over $100M and eventually being taken public in 2017. In 2008, Jim moved to Massif, a Defense Department contractor, as a Product Line Director. Jim managed a team of designers, developers, and testers in building flame-resistant soft shells, combat shirts, flight suits, knee pads and combat boots for the military, helping the company grow from $35M to $110M. In 2012, they joined Sierra Designs as a Product Line Director and was tasked with a turn-around. Jim managed a team of designers and developers to introduce novel sportswear, outerwear and sleeping bags, eliminating negative operating profit (EBIT) and doubling gross margin dollars. In 2015, Jim became a Contractor / Consultant for LINE, providing services such as market research, strategy, project management, concepts, and sourcing. Finally, in 2021, they joined Truewerk as the Director Of Product, executing strategy to bring technical fabric, fit and features to the workwear market and managing two outside apparel design and graphic design firms.

Jim Trombly studied Plant Molecular Biology at West Virginia University and obtained a Bachelor's Degree in Natural Sciences from the University of Vermont. Jim also holds a certification in Lean Product Development from the Project Management Institute.
