Jia Wu has a diverse work experience spanning across various roles and industries. They began their career at Western University as a Data Analyst and Software Developer, where they developed data processing pipelines for genomic data and improved the runtime performance of existing workflows. Jia then joined Eighty8 Ventures as a Senior Developer and later became an Entrepreneur In Residence, contributing to the growth and development of early-stage startups.
Following this, Jia co-founded Auspre, a startup focused on leveraging AI for speech to text and speaker diarization operations. As the Chief Data Scientist, they secured funding, led the data efforts of the company, and designed, trained, tested, and deployed in-house transformer models.
Jia's journey continued at the University of Waterloo, where they served as a Scientific Researcher and a Teaching Assistant. As a PhD candidate, they conducted bioinformatics research and provided project management and DevOps for the lab. They also mentored students, created marking schemes, and performed grading for various computer science courses.
Currently, Jia is working as a Solutions Architect at Tyk, where they provide technical guidance and consultation to B2B customers interested in adopting an API-first approach. They conduct technical demos, generate content across different media, and offer strategic guidance on API management.
Throughout their career, Jia Wu has showcased a strong technical background, leadership skills, and a passion for utilizing AI and data science to drive innovation.
Jia Wu has an extensive education history spanning from high school to a current PhD candidate status. Jia Wu completed their high school education at Fort Frances High School from 2008 to 2012. In 2011, they also received a Shad Valley Certificate of Completion in Business/Mathematics from Shad Valley at Memorial University.
Moving on to higher education, Jia Wu attended Western University from 2012 to 2016. During this time, they pursued a Bachelor's Degree in two fields of study: Honours BMSc Computational Biochemistry and Computer Science. Following their undergraduate studies, Jia Wu enrolled at the University of Waterloo from 2016 to 2018 for a Master's Degree in Computer Science.
Currently, Jia Wu is a registered PhD candidate at the University of Waterloo, actively pursuing a Doctor of Philosophy degree in Computer Science. Jia Wu's expected completion for their PhD is in 2022.
In addition to their academic journey, Jia Wu has obtained two certifications. They are a Certified Kubernetes Application Developer certified by The Linux Foundation, which they obtained in January 2023. Furthermore, they hold an EMR CPR/AED-HCP certification obtained from Canadian Red Cross - John Beaton in June 2012.
