Gareth Palfrey

Gareth Palfrey has a diverse work experience in various companies and roles. Gareth started their career as an Application Developer at Travelex in 2002, where they worked on ASP, Coldfusion, and .NET developments. In 2004, they joined XStudio as a Technical Lead.

In 2005, Gareth moved to the Royal Society of Chemistry, where they initially served as a Senior Application Developer, gaining a deep understanding of RSC systems and IT processes. Gareth later became a Software Architect, leading and contributing to high-profile projects that involved various development technologies like C#.

In 2017, Gareth joined Move with Us as a Software Architect, focusing on serverless technologies in Azure and implementing a microservice architecture. Gareth was responsible for moving monolithic legacy applications to Azure and ensuring an agile microservice architecture that could adapt to business changes.

In 2019, Gareth joined Worldpay as a Senior IT Architect, specifically working in the Worldpay Treasury & Disbursements division. Gareth led the design of a Cloud Microservice architecture capable of processing 12 million payment requests per day. Their work primarily revolved around maintaining consistency and availability across multiple AWS regions, achieving scalability while balancing costs, and facilitating quick and confident deployment. Gareth also worked on integrating with banks/payment providers, general ledger maintenance, and statement/reconciliation handling.
