Jason Young

Jason Young has extensive experience in law enforcement and military service, currently serving as a Police Sergeant in the City of Independence since January 1996. In the role of Sergeant in the Criminal Investigations Division since 2013, Jason supervises a team of detectives, manages major criminal investigations, responds to crime scenes, and acts as a liaison with state and federal prosecutors. In addition, Jason has served in the U.S. Coast Guard as a Lieutenant, particularly as Officer in Charge of Internal Security at the Al Basrah Oil Terminal in Iraq, where responsibilities included protecting infrastructure and leading security details for dignitaries. As an Academy Instructor at Metropolitan Community College-Kansas City since 1999, Jason provides training in various law enforcement topics. Jason holds a Master’s degree in Criminal Justice from the University of Central Missouri and a Bachelor’s degree in Secondary Education from the University of Missouri-Kansas City.
