Adria Elskus

Bureau Approving Office At USGS at U.S. Geological Survey

Adria Elskus is an accomplished biologist with extensive experience in aquatic toxicology and fish physiology. Currently serving as the Bureau Approving Office and Branch Chief at the U.S. Geological Survey since July 2004, Adria's research focuses on the impacts of aquatic contaminants on fish reproduction and physiology, the development of non-lethal biosensors for contaminant exposure, and the heritable resistance of fish to toxicants. Previous academic roles include Associate Professor at the University of Maine and Assistant Professor at the University of Kentucky, where Adria explored the biochemical repercussions of toxicant resistance. Adria's early career involved positions as Research Assistant Professor at the Marine Sciences Research Center and as a chemist with the US EPA and other organizations. Adria holds a PhD in Biology from Boston University, with a specialization in Biochemical Toxicology, as well as a MS in Biological Oceanography from the University of Rhode Island and a AB in Biochemistry from Mount Holyoke College.
