Helmut Berends

Helmut Berends is an experienced professional with a strong background in project administration, financial management, and urban transport planning. Currently serving as the EU Project Administrative & Financial Officer at UITP since April 2020, Berends oversees administrative and financial tasks for large-scale collaborative innovation projects funded by the European Commission. Prior to this role, Berends was the Managing Director of Berends-Consult from January 2002 to April 2020, providing consultancy for EU-funded projects focused on urban development and public transport. Earlier career highlights include serving as the Head of the Transport Planning Division at Verkehrsverbund Bremen/Niedersachsen GmbH, as well as roles as a lecturer in creative working methods across various educational institutes. Berends also held positions at Hamburg Consult GmbH as a Senior Consultant and Project Manager, and at the Municipality of Münster as a Transport Planner and Analyst, where urban planning measures were developed to enhance mobility strategies.
