Carly Whitaker has a diverse work experience with various roles in different companies over the years. Carly started their career as a Multimedia Navigator at Vega School in 2012 and later became a Lecturer at Market Photo Workshop, University of the Witwatersrand, University of Johannesburg, and University of Pretoria. In 2014, they founded Floating Reverie and served as the Founder and Artistic Director. Carly also worked as a Lecturer at Open Window and eventually became the Head of School for Creative Technologies. In 2020, Carly joined Umuzi.org as the Head of Digital Product Design and later became the Head of Culture and Brand. Carly also worked as an Artistic Director at The Mixed Reality Workshop (TMRW) during this time. In 2021, they served as an Honours Supervisor at Open Window. Overall, Carly has demonstrated expertise in multimedia, education, and leadership roles.
Carly Whitaker's education history begins in 1999 when they attended Kingsmead College for their IEB Matric. From 2004 to 2008, they pursued a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) degree in Fine Art at the University of the Witwatersrand. In 2011, they furthered their education by earning a Master of Arts (MA) degree in Digital Interactive Media from the same university. Carly's educational journey culminated in their pursuit of a Doctor of Philosophy - PhD (creative research) in Fine Art / Curatorial at the University of Reading, which they started in 2019 and is expected to complete in 2023.
