Birguy Lamizana

Birguy Lamizana is a seasoned professional with extensive experience in project management and environmental policy, currently serving as a Senior Project Officer at the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD) since April 2021. Previous roles include Programme Officer at UNEP from January 2012 to April 2021, where responsibilities encompassed acting as Officer in Charge for the Global Programme of Action (GPA) and overseeing staff while representing the unit at management meetings. Birguy's prior experience includes serving as Chief Technical Advisor at UNOPS with a focus on water resources management, Programme Coordinator at Global Water Partnership-West Africa, and Regional Programme Officer for Wetlands and Water Management at IUCN. Birguy holds a PhD in Environmental Flows Assessment from Aarhus University, a Degree of Advanced Studies in Freshwater Ecology from the University of Ouagadougou, and an engineering degree in Water Sciences and Technology.
