Nika Bartoo-Smith

Nika Bartoo-Smith is an experienced reporter currently contributing to Underscore News and Indian Country Today since March 2023. Previously, Nika served as a Health & Social Services Reporter for The Columbian from September 2022 to March 2023, and as a Reporting Intern at the Roseburg News-Review from June 2022 to September 2022. Nika also held significant roles at The Daily Emerald, including Community Engagement Coordinator and Arts and Culture Associate Editor, where efforts were made to foster diversity and accountability within the newsroom. Nika's writing experience extends to long-form storytelling for Ethos Magazine, focusing on underrepresented voices in the Eugene community. Nika earned a Bachelor of Arts in Journalism from the University of Oregon School of Journalism and Communication in 2022.
