Reuben Shank has a diverse work experience spanning various roles and organizations. Reuben is currently the Director of Learning and Impact Strategies at URI (United Religions Initiative), where they collaborate with global teams to develop innovative strategies for peacebuilding and healing. Prior to this, Reuben worked as a Senior Training Partner and Senior Project Manager at Sierra Club, where they designed and facilitated trainings for team and movement building. Reuben also held roles at Pacific School of Religion, where they served as an academic and administrative coordinator, assistant registrar, and executive assistant, and at The University of Virginia, where they worked as a doctoral student teaching and research fellow. Reuben has also worked as a trainer and consultant for the Society for Scriptural Reasoning and the University of Cambridge, and as an adjunct faculty member at Eastern Mennonite University. Reuben has a range of skills and expertise in areas such as conflict resolution, equity and justice learning, and interfaith engagement.
Reuben Shank's education history begins with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Physics, Peace Studies, and Bible/Religion/Philosophy from Goshen College, which was obtained from 1993 to 1997. Shank then pursued a Master of Arts in Theology and Ethics at Anabaptist Mennonite Biblical Seminary from 2002 to 2004. Continuing their educational journey, Shank completed an M.A. in Religious Studies, with a focus on Theology, Ethics, and Culture, at the University of Virginia from 2009 to 2011. Finally, Shank engaged in further academic pursuits at the University of Virginia by pursuing a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Scripture, Interpretation, Practice: Religion and Conflict from 2012 to 2020.
