Roy Houseman began their work experience in 2005 as a Sparehand at Smurfit Stone Container, where they worked in operations for a kraft-liner board facility. Roy then served as a City Council Member for Ward 2 in the City of Missoula from 2010 to 2011, representing the area and participating in various council duties. In 2011, Houseman joined the United Steelworkers (USW) as a Legislative Representative, advocating for policies related to trade, transportation, manufacturing, pensions, and labor rights. Roy has since held several positions within USW, including Associate Legislative Director and currently serves as the Legislative Director.
Roy Houseman earned a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) degree in English Language and Literature/Letters from the University of Montana. Roy graduated in 2003 after completing their studies between 1999 and 2003. Later, Roy pursued higher education and obtained a Master of Public Administration (MPA) degree in Public Administration from the University of Montana. This occurred between the years 2010 and 2012.
