Prof. P. C. Joshi has been the Head of the Department in Anthropology in the University of Delhi. He served as Head of the Department in various institutions like HNB Garhwal University and Institute of Human Behaviour and Allied Sciences. He was nominated Asia Coordinator of the European Union 6th Framework Microdis Integrated Project, 2007 and was a delegate of the European Union to Poznan, Poland in United Nations Framework Climate Change Conference in 2008. He is recipient of the Indira Priyadarshini Vriksha Mitra National Award as Friends of Trees founder member, 1987 and the Inter-University Centre Associateship Award in Humanities and Social Sciences, 1996-1999, Certificate of Honour at the First France-India Meet on Psychiatry, Psychoanalysis and Psychotherapy, 2007, Plaque of Appreciation from Department of Sociology and Anthropology, Xavier University Ateneo de Cagayan de Oro City, Philippines, 2008, and Certificate of Appreciation on his research on disaster impacts in Asia and Europe by Faculty of Public Health, University of Indonesia in 2009, among other honours and distinctions. He was the UGC Sap Advisory Committee member for the SV University, Tirupati, Vidhyasagar University, Midnapur, Central University of Hyderabad and Karnataka University Dharwad. He was the Task Force Member, Department of Biotechnology, Government of India. He has been in the panel of experts for Indian Council of Social Science Research and Member of Advisory Committee, Anthropological Survey of India, Ministry of Culture, Government of India. He has organized fifteen Conferences included one in the University of Hue, Vietnam in the year 2010. He is the current president of the Society for Indian Medical Anthropology, Mysore and specializes in the fields of Medical Anthropology, Himalayan Anthropology. Antibiotic Resistance and Qualitative Research Methods . His scientific publications are in the field of Medical Anthropology, Traditional Medicines, Shamanism, Impact of Disasters, Life Style Diseases and Antibiotic Resistance. Besides nine books, his papers numbering more than 150 have appeared in the journals such as World Development, The Eastern Anthropologists, Man in India, Journal of Biosocial Science, Journal of Southasian Disaster Studies, Journal of Anthropology, American Journal of Orthopsychiatry, European Academic Research, South Asian Anthropologist, Prehospital and Disaster Medicine, International Journal of Human Science, Journal of Anthropological Survey of India, Indian Journal of Medical Research, Journal of Clinical Pharmacy and Therapeutics, Values in Health, Global Health Action, Family Practice, National Medical Journal of India and many more journals. He has supervised around 30 Ph.D. and around 25 M.Phil. students.
