Javier Alfaro

Javier Alfaro is a Principal Investigator in Computational Immunology and Immunotherapeutics at the University of Gdansk since January 2020, focusing on data science applications in immunology and immunotherapy, with published work related to COVID-19, cancer, and vaccines. Additionally, Javier serves as the Chief Scientific Officer and Director of Data Science at AtheneBio and supervises Biomedical AI Masters and PhD students at the University of Edinburgh, overseeing the completion of machine-learning intensive projects. Prior experience includes an Independent Research Fellow role in Cancer Vaccine Science, leading an international team among three partner universities, and delivering computational expertise at the Ontario Institute for Cancer Research. Javier holds a PhD in Medical Biophysics from the University of Toronto, an MSc in Bioinformatics from Dalhousie University, and a Bachelor's degree in Biochemistry and Computer Science from the University of Victoria.
