Ndivhuwo Makondo

Ndivhuwo Makondo is a Staff Research Scientist and Manager of Artificial Intelligence at IBM, leading research teams in neuro-symbolic AI and Natural Language Understanding since February 2019. Makondo's expertise includes managing projects focused on integrating knowledge, learning, and reasoning in AI, with applications in general and domain-specific NLP tasks. Concurrently, Makondo serves as a Senior Research Associate at the University of Johannesburg, a Visiting Researcher at the University of the Witwatersrand, and holds a Deputy Chair position in the Computing Chapter of the South African Institute of Electrical Engineers. Previously, Makondo led robotics research at the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research, focusing on AI and Machine Learning for autonomous robots. Academic qualifications include a Ph.D. in Computational Intelligence from Tokyo Institute of Technology and a Master of Science in Electrical Engineering from the University of Cape Town.
