Mareli Claassens

Research Associate Professor at University of Namibia

Mareli Claassens is a highly experienced academic and researcher currently serving as a Member of the Global Young Academy and as a Research Associate Professor at the University of Namibia since April 2020. In addition, Claassens is an Editorial Board Member for the Public Library of Science (PLOS) and was a Harvard LEAD Fellow from September 2021 to August 2022 at Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health. Previous experience includes a notable tenure as a Clinician Scientist and Postdoctoral Fellow at Stellenbosch University from February 2007 to March 2018. Claassens holds a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Medicine from the University of Amsterdam, a Master of Science (MS) in Epidemiology from the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, and a Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS), as well as a Master of Philosophy (MPhil) in Applied Ethics, both from Stellenbosch University.
