Michael Schirling

Michael Schirling is a seasoned professional with extensive experience in public safety, compliance, and policy development. Currently serving as the Chief Safety & Compliance Officer at the University of Vermont since June 2022, Michael also holds an Executive Fellow position at the Police Foundation since July 2015 and works as a consultant for Vision 131, LLC, focusing on policy, research, training, and technical assistance for public safety organizations. Previous roles include Commissioner of the Vermont Department of Public Safety, Secretary of Commerce & Community Development for the State of Vermont, and Executive Director of BTV Ignite. Michael's law enforcement career spans over 26 years with the Burlington, VT Police Department, culminating in the role of Chief of Police. Michael holds both a Master’s in Education with a focus on Leadership & Policy Development and a Bachelor's degree in Political Science from the University of Vermont.
