Reid Adams

Chief Medical Officer at University of Virginia

Adams became Interim Chief Medical Officer in April 2020. As CMO, Adams serves as the Medical Center’s senior physician, overseeing the UVA Health’s medical staff and working to ensure high-quality patient care and service.

As associate director of clinical affairs for the Cancer Center, Dr. Adams has been responsible for clinical strategic and operational management. He is chief of the division of surgical oncology and the division of hepatobiliary and pancreatic surgery.

In his clinical roles, he established a Pancreatic Cancer Program that involves screening for high-risk patients as well as novel treatment therapies for those who are diagnosed with the condition. In addition, Adams is member-elect on the Clinical Staff Executive Committee Advisory Committee.

He is also in charge of strategic and operational management of the Cancer Center of Excellence, as director of the COE.

Adams has been a part of the UVA community since 1979 when he was an undergraduate student. He attended the UVA School of Medicine as a student and surgery resident, and after a one-year hiatus for a fellowship in Toronto, Adams joined the UVA faculty in 1995.

His clinical interests include liver, pancreatic and biliary cancers and diseases.
