Dr. Shim Lew, an Assistant Professor, received a Ph.D. in Language and Literacy Education with an emphasis on Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages.
She teaches TESOL courses for pre-service and in-service teachers such as ESOL Principles and Practices.
Her research focuses on teacher education for English learners, disciplinary language and literacy development, ESOL professional learning, teacher identity construction, bilingual education, and qualitative research methodology. Her work has been published in TESOL Encyclopedia, Electronic Journal of Science Education, and Korean Journal of Teacher Education.
She began her career teaching English in middle school in Seoul, Korea. After she taught in middle school over seven years, she obtained her M.A. at the Pennsylvania State University and her Ph.D. at the University of Georgia and joined the UWF faculty.
