Ofer Shai

Ofer Shai has worked in the software engineering and data science field since 2011. Ofer began their career as a Senior Software Developer at Thoora, where they designed and implemented backend algorithms. Ofer then moved to Kobo Inc. as a Senior Researcher and Development Engineer, where they were responsible for the book recommendation engine from start to finish. In 2012, they joined Upsight as the Director of Data Science and Team Lead, Data Science. In 2015, they became the Chief Science Officer at Meta, and then in 2017, the Director of Data Science at the Chan Zuckerberg Initiative. In 2018, they worked as an Adjunct Professor at the Smith School of Business at Queen's University, and then in 2019, they joined the Advisory Board at the University of Guelph. In 2020, they worked as the Senior Director of Machine Learning & Analytics Governance at Loblaw Companies Limited, and in 2021, they began their current role as Principal Software Engineer at Untether AI.

Ofer Shai received a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Computer Engineering from the University of Toronto in 2008. Prior to that, they received a B.Eng in Computer Engineering from the University of Alberta in 2003.
