Maria Kortene

Maria Kortene has extensive experience in financial control and group finance. Maria has held roles at UPM, starting from 2005, where they served as the Vice President of Financial Control and Group Finance, responsible for global financial reporting compliance and implementation of IFRS. Maria also led the Group Accounting team and was involved in M&A projects. Prior to UPM, Maria worked at KPMG as an Authorised Public Accountant, managing audits for listed companies and those in the financial sector. Currently, they are a member of the Finnish Accounting Board and serves as a Board Member for UPM-Kymmenen Kulttuurisäätiö sr / UPM-Kymmene Cultural Foundation sr, as well as being a former member of the Consultative Working Group for the European Securities and Markets Authority (ESMA).

Maria Kortene has a Master of Science in Economics and Business Administration with a specialization in Accounting, which they obtained from Aalto University between 1994 and 1999. Additionally, they have obtained the KHT/APA certification from the Finnish Patent and Registration Office in 2003. Maria has also completed the "Career Essentials in Generative AI" program by Microsoft and LinkedIn, and the "Elements of AI" program from the University of Helsinki, although the specific dates of completion are not provided.
