Alex Gluhak has a diverse and extensive work experience in the field of IoT and urban data. Currently, they are employed as the Senior Technical Advisor at Open & Agile Smart Cities (OASC) since 2024.
Prior to that, Gluhak founded and served as the CEO of Urban Data Collective since 2021. Alex developed solutions to democratize access to urban data and built a global community of providers and users of urban data streams.
From 2015 to 2021, Gluhak worked at Digital Catapult, initially as the Head of Technology (IoT) and later as the Lead Technologist (IoT). Alex created and grew the IoT program at Digital Catapult, supporting UK organizations and businesses in IoT technology adoption and leading a team of IoT technologists. Alex also developed national innovation support programs for LPWAN technologies and large-scale international IoT pilots for Smart Cities.
Prior to that, Gluhak worked as a Technology Strategist and Principal Investigator at Intel Labs from 2014 to 2015. Alex contributed to the Intel Collaborative Research Institute on Sustainable and Connected Cities.
From 2009 to 2013, Gluhak served as a Senior Research Fellow at the University of Surrey. Alex led experimental IoT research activities, secured significant funding, and established a reputation for research in the IoT field.
From 2008 to 2009, Gluhak worked as a Senior Research Engineer at Ericsson Ireland Research Centre, focusing on Machine to Machine Communications (M2M) and IoT.
Before that, they worked as a Research Fellow at the University of Surrey from 2006 to 2008, focusing on technology enablers for mobile context awareness and wireless sensor networks.
Gluhak also had short-term research positions as a Visiting Researcher at NICT in 2004, where they worked on an out-of-band signaling channel for multicast delivery coordination, and at the University of California, Irvine in 2001, where they worked on system-level synthesis.
Alex Gluhak completed a PhD in Mobile Communications and Networking at the University of Surrey from 2002 to 2006. Prior to that, they obtained a Dipl.Ing. in Communication Engineering from Offenburg University of Applied Sciences between 1997 and 2002.
