Leonardo V. has had a varied career in the sciences. Leonardo started their career in 2008 as a Graduate Student-Researcher at the University of Puerto Rico-Mayaguez Campus, where they conducted phylogenetic studies. Leonardo then moved to the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey, where they worked as a Graduate Student-Researcher from 2008-2009, optimizing expression and purification of the N-terminal Domain of the Murine Leukemia Virus (MLV) Integrase Protein for Structural Studies. In 2010, they returned to the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey as a Graduate Student-PhD Work, where they worked on isolating and characterizing novel retargeted gamma retroviral Envelope proteins and screening for their host-cell receptors. In 2014, they worked as an Instructor at RWJMS, Rutgers, teaching M1 Microbiology Laboratory to first-year medicine students. Finally, in 2017, Leonardo V. joined USA Scientific as an International Sales Manager and International Sales Specialist.

Leonardo V. began their educational journey in 2004, when they earned a BS in Biology-Biomedical Sciences from the University of Puerto Rico in Aguadilla. Leonardo then went on to earn 19 credits at the graduate level in Biology, General from the University of Puerto Rico-Mayaguez in 2008. Finally, from 2009 to 2015, Leonardo V. obtained a PhD in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology with a research focus in Molecular Virology from Robert Wood Johnson Medical School-Rutgers Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences.
