Erik Utter

President & Design Engineer at Utter Associates

Emmy recipient Erik Utter brings a broad range of experience and qualifications to every project. As lead design engineer he provides the technical vision and strategy for projects and is especially well versed in working directly with diverse stakeholder groups to organize a project. Prior to founding the company, his experience includes the following.

Erik has been part of the NBC Olympics engineering team for multiple Olympic Games in Athens, Torino, Beijing and Vancouver. He received an Emmy for his work in Beijing with NBC. He worked in preparation for the first high-definition broadcast coverage of the Olympics at the NBC Olympics headquarters facilities in New York and Connecticut.

As Director of Engineering at Flying Spot, Erik spent over seven years growing the company into the largest film and video post-production firm in the Northwest with a significant high-definition capacity. He designed a facility that grew into numerous HD edit and effects finishing suites, HD telecine, over a dozen Avids, on-line, design, 3D, sound design, streaming media, duplications, etc. While employed by Flying Spot, Erik designed and deployed the first web application of it's type to stream live video of a session in progress to remote clients. He also designed the live video systems and control room at the new Safeco Field for the Seattle Mariners.

While at Pinnacle Post, then the largest production/post-production facility in the Northwest, he was responsible for technical facilities and work-flow, acted as the network engineer during the early days of multi-platform computer graphics and visual effects and also put the first production company in the country on the "web".
