Dr. Elliot Palmer’s entrance into medicine was at a very young age—accompanying his father, a rural do-it-all family medicine physician in West Virginia, on house calls. After a brief foray into the liberal arts and a degree in religious studies at Davidson College in Davidson, North Carolina, he returned to West Virginia and earned his medical degree at West Virginia University in Morgantown. He then completed an internship and residency in anesthesiology, and a fellowship in pain medicine, both at Oregon Health & Science University in Portland, Oregon.
He was drawn to pain management because he enjoys developing personal connections and long-term relationships with patients. While he remains board certified in anesthesiology and pain medicine by the American Board of Anesthesiology, his current practice is 100 percent pain management.
Dr. Palmer is able to help with nearly any pain complaint but has a particular focus on the spine. He performs all of the clinic’s spinal injection procedures. He helps his patients understand what is causing their pain, demystifies the medical terminology on their x-rays and MRIs, and helps them make the best choices regarding treatment. He believes strongly in first providing education to his patients and then making shared decisions with them.
As much as Dr. Palmer loves his work, he is happiest when at home with his wife and daughter. In his spare time he enjoys renovating his home, rock climbing, skiing, swimming, traveling internationally, cooking, and eating. When time allows he also plays one of his many instruments. The banjo has been getting the most attention recently, but he also plays the mandolin, piano, and trumpet.
