Bjorn Birkeland has extensive work experience in the drilling engineering field. Bjorn started their career at BG Group as a Drilling Engineer, where they planned and monitored the drilling of a high-pressure, high-temperature appraisal well. Bjorn then joined BP as an Operations Drilling Engineer, focusing on the early planning of subsea field development and deep well sidetracks. After that, they worked at AGR Petroleum Services as a Senior Drilling Engineer for a short period of time.
Birkeland then joined SPD Group, where they worked on the conversion of a depleted onshore UK gas field into a gas storage facility. Their responsibilities included evaluating the use of existing wells, drilling new wells, and properly abandoning wells with integrity issues or that were unsuitable for the project.
In 2013, they moved to Tullow Oil as a Senior Drilling Engineer, where they continued to contribute their expertise until 2014. Following this, they joined E.ON UK as a Senior Drilling Engineer. At E.ON UK, they were involved in investigating the causes for inability to produce the Artemis gas field and evaluating various alternatives to re-attempt production. Bjorn also worked on the development of near high-pressure, high-temperature (HPHT) operations in the Huntington Area.
Most recently, Birkeland is working at Vår Energi as a Senior Drilling Engineer starting from February 2020.
Bjorn Birkeland's education history includes a Bachelor of Science degree in Petroleum Engineering from Texas A&M University, which they obtained from 1984 to 1988. Later, they pursued a Masters of Petroleum Engineering from Texas A&M University from 1996 to 1997. In the same year, they also attended Ecole du Pétrole et des Moteurs and obtained a Diplôme d'Ingénieur in Petroleum Management.
