Michael Zhang

Graduate Student Researcher at Vector Institute

Michael Zhang is a graduate student researcher at the Vector Institute, focusing on deep learning under the guidance of Jimmy Ba since September 2018. Zhang served as a lecturer at the University of Toronto for an introductory machine learning course in early 2023. Prior internships include roles at Tesla investigating self-driving technology, Google researching dynamics models for reinforcement learning published at ICLR, LinkedIn developing natural language processing models, and Workday creating a reporting system for companies. Zhang has also contributed as a research assistant in the Robot Learning Lab at UC Berkeley, working alongside renowned professor Pieter Abbeel, and as a teaching assistant for multiple semesters at UC Berkeley’s EECS department. Zhang's educational background includes a PhD in Computer Science from the University of Toronto, an MS in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science from UC Berkeley, and a BA in Computer Science from the same institution.
