Pieter Coulier began their work experience as an intern at Jan De Nul in 2009. Pieter then served as a Visiting Researcher at the University of Cambridge in 2013. From 2014 to 2016, Pieter worked as a Visiting postdoctoral researcher at Stanford University and as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at KU Leuven, where they developed numerical methods for solving large dynamic soil-structure interaction problems. In 2014, they became a Francqui Foundation Fellow at the Belgian American Educational Foundation. Since 2016, Pieter has been employed by Velo3D, first as a Senior Simulation Engineer, then as a Senior Software Engineer, and currently as a Principal Software Engineer.

Pieter Coulier obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering from KU Leuven in 2008. Pieter then pursued a Master of Science degree in Civil Engineering from KU Leuven, which they completed in 2010. During this time, in 2009, they also worked on their MSc Thesis at the University of Cambridge. Additionally, they attended Trinity College Cambridge in 2009-2010, although the specific degree and field of study for this period are not specified. Lastly, Pieter received a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) degree in Civil Engineering from KU Leuven in 2014.
