Rathin Datta

Rathin Datta has a diverse and extensive work experience spanning several decades. Rathin co-founded Vertec Biosolvents in 2000 and served as the Chairman of the Board. At Vertec Biosolvents, they oversaw the development, manufacturing, and marketing of biologically-derived renewable resource alternatives to petroleum-based solvents.

In 2006, Datta co-founded Coskata and served as the Chief Scientific Officer. Coskata focused on second generation biofuels, particularly ethanol and chemical feedstocks, utilizing a unique technology platform of syngas bioconversion.

Prior to their entrepreneurial ventures, Datta worked as an Advisor in Bioengineering at Argonne National Laboratory from 1992 to 2006. From 1987 to 1992, they held the position of Vice President of Research and Development at MBI (Michigan Biotechnology Institute).

Datta's earlier career included roles at CPC International, Exxon R&D, and Merck from 1974 to 1987. During this time, they held various positions in Research and Development, including that of Section Leader.

Rathin Datta obtained a Bachelor of Technology (B.Tech.) degree in Chemical Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur, which they completed between 1965 and 1970. Following this, they pursued a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Chemical Engineering from Princeton University, which they successfully completed between 1970 and 1974.
