John van Fossen

Director Power Switching And Distribution Engineering at Vertiv

John Van Fossen has a diverse work experience spanning multiple industries and roles. John currently serves as the Director of Power Switching and Distribution Engineering at Vertiv, where they manage and mentors engineering teams and leads new product development. Prior to this, they worked as a Lead Engineer and Product Engineer Technical Lead, focusing on new product development and technical approval at Vertiv.

In addition to their experience at Vertiv, John co-owned VF Rentals LLC, a property investment and rental company. John also worked at Honda R&D Americas, Inc as an Engineer II, conducting research and development on hybrid electric vehicle systems and components. At Honda of America Mfg., Inc., they served as an Engineering Coordinator, specializing in testing hybrid vehicle systems and developing test procedures.

Earlier in their career, John worked at Westinghouse Electric Company as a Senior Engineer, leading the design of a nuclear power plant control room. John also gained experience as an Engineering Intern at Nestle, where they supported a manufacturing line upgrade, and as an Exhibits Technician at COSI - Center of Science and Industry, responsible for maintenance and repair of exhibits. Additionally, they worked as a Parts Inspector at Spherion and as an Engineering Aide at Air Force Research Laboratory, assisting with various engineering tasks.

John Van Fossen holds a Master of Global Engineering Leadership degree from The Ohio State University, which they obtained from 2014 to 2016. Prior to that, they completed their Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering at the same institution from 2003 to 2007. John also obtained their High School Diploma from Lehman Catholic High School in 2003. In addition to their academic achievements, they have certifications as a Certified ScrumMaster (CSM) from Scrum Alliance, obtained in July 2022, and in Sustainability Strategies from LinkedIn in 2022.
