Curtis began their career at Johnson Controls, initially as an Energy Solutions Engineering Co-op, supporting the solutions development team in various aspects of performance contracting projects. Later, they served as an Energy Solutions Engineer, contributing to asset/utility data collection, system benchmarking, and creating energy/operational performance models.

During their early years, Curtis gained experience as a Summer Research Intern at the Environmental Working Group, conducting research on power generation and energy conserving technologies. Curtis also worked as a Facilities Management and Services Engineering Intern at the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, where they supported engineers in the project development of facilities management construction projects.

Finally, Curtis started their professional journey as an IT Operations Co-op at Duke Energy Corporation, where they assisted in maintaining Unix and Windows based servers in a server farm environment.

Curtis Maples, M.Eng has a diverse education history. Curtis obtained their Master of Business Administration (MBA) with a focus on Business Administration and Management, General from the Gies College of Business at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. Prior to their MBA, Curtis earned a Master of Engineering degree in Systems Engineering from Penn State University. Curtis attended Penn State from 2012 to 2014.
