Assoc. Prof. Dr. Valdas Jaskūnas has been the Vice-Rector for Studies at Vilnius University (since 1 September 2016). He is responsible for the quality, results, development, and financing of studies and non-formal education, internationalization of studies, teacher training, educational competencies of academic staff and attraction of new academic staff members, academic counseling for students, the attraction of talented students.
The Vice-Rector for Studies represents the University in all state and other institutions by signing applications, reports, letters, and other documents related to the study activities of the University and in concluding, amending, terminating, and continuing student research contracts, as well as student and graduate mobility abroad (Erasmus+ internships, internships at the diplomatic mission of the Republic of Lithuania and Lithuanian education schools), author's contracts in the studies field and residency (except doctoral studies), and other (including residency) in the studies field and non-formal education, contracts for the implementation of joint study programs and other documents.
Dr. V. Jaskūnas graduated from the Vilnius Academy of Arts with a Master's degree in Art History and Theory, also he has defended his doctoral dissertation in the Humanities (2003). Since 1997 – Lecturer at the Center of Oriental Studies in Vilnius University, 2014–2016 – the Director of the Centre. Pro-Rector's field of scientific interests consists of the textual tradition of the architecture of early medieval Hindu temples in India, the academic practices of regionalism and their history in the West, theories of regionalism, the history of Lithuanian Orientalism, and the activities of Asian and especially Indian institutions and movements in Lithuania.
