Saulius Čaplinskas is a prominent figure in the field of health and sports within Vilnius, currently serving as the Deputy Chairman of the Health and Sports Committee at the Vilnius City Council since April 2023, alongside roles as a member of both the Drug Control Commission and the Human Rights Commission. Additionally, Saulius holds a position as a member of the Vilnius City Council and chairs the Vilnius City Municipality Community Health Council. With an extensive academic background, Saulius has been a professor at Mykolas Romeris University since July 2009. Prior directorial roles include overseeing the Center for Communicable Diseases and AIDS from October 2009 to March 2021 and leading the Lithuanian AIDS Centre from 1989 to 2009. Saulius is also recognized for contributions to global health as a Communicable Diseases and Vaccination expert for the World Health Organization and has been involved in various capacities with UNAIDS and other health organizations since the 1990s. Educational qualifications include a PhD from the D. Ivanovsky Institute of Virusology and an MD from Kaunas Medical Institute.
