Carey Hwang, MD, PhD has a diverse work experience in the field of clinical research and medicine. Currently, Dr. Hwang holds the position of Senior Vice President, Head of Clinical Research at Vir Biotechnology, Inc. In this role, Dr. Hwang oversees the clinical research activities of the company. Prior to joining Vir Biotechnology, Inc., Dr. Hwang worked at Merck as the Executive Director and Product Development Lead in Global Clinical Development - Infectious Diseases. Before that, Dr. Hwang held various positions at Bristol-Myers Squibb, including Medical Director and Associate Medical Director in the Discovery Medicine - Virology department. Earlier in their career, Dr. Hwang worked at Vanderbilt University Medical Center as an Instructor in Medicine and also as a Chief Fellow in the Division of Infectious Diseases. Dr. Hwang conducted HIV research during their time at Vanderbilt, focusing on the latent reservoir of HIV. Dr. Hwang's career in research began at the National Cancer Institute, where they served as a Graduate Student/Research Fellow, studying the properties and determinants associated with murine leukemia virus reverse transcription. With their extensive experience and expertise, Dr. Hwang has made significant contributions to the field of clinical research and medicine.
Carey Hwang, MD, PhD completed their undergraduate studies in Molecular Biology at Princeton University from 1991 to 1995. They then pursued their medical and doctoral degrees at West Virginia University School of Medicine from 1995 to 2003, specializing in Medicine and Microbiology/Immunology.
