Mariangela Urbano

Mariangela Urbano has extensive experience in the pharmaceutical industry, focusing on medicinal chemistry and drug discovery. Mariangela is currently working as the Associate Director of Medicinal Chemistry at Vividion Therapeutics, Inc. Prior to this, they held roles at ActivX Biosciences, where they served as the Director of Chemistry and Associate Director of Chemistry. At ActivX Biosciences, they managed the chemistry team and led efforts in designing and synthesizing small molecules, as well as collaborating with other teams to advance projects.

Before joining ActivX Biosciences, Mariangela worked at BlackThorn Therapeutics as a Senior Scientist, contributing to the development of a drug candidate for the treatment of major depressive disorders. Mariangela Urbano completed their Bachelor of Science (B.S.) in Chemistry and Pharmaceutical Technologies at the University of Bari, Italy from 1997 to 2002. Mariangela then pursued an II Level University M.S. Degree in Drug Design and Synthesis at the University of Pavia, Italy from 2002 to 2003. Later, they obtained their Ph.D. in Chemistry and Pharmaceutical Technologies from the University of Pavia, Italy between 2004 and 2007. As part of their education, they also completed an internship in Medicinal Chemistry and Organic Chemistry at GlaxoSmithKline in Harlow, UK from 2006 to 2007.
