Rafael Pagés is a co-founder and the CEO of Volograms, a company that specializes in user-generated 3D content creation for augmented reality. 💬 Rafael leads a diverse team of technologists and creatives in developing a mobile content creation platform that allows smartphone users to easily create, share, and play with immersive, dynamic content. Rafael Pagés started at Volograms in January 2018.
In addition to their role at Volograms, Rafael Pagés has served as an Advisory Board Member for SXSW since August 2022.
Rafael Pagés has also worked as a lecturer on volumetric video at Virtual Voyagers Academy from April 2022 to July 2022, and as a lecturer in XR and photography at INMERSIVA³ during March 2022 to June 2022.
Prior to their current roles, Rafael Pagés was a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at Trinity College Dublin from November 2016 to May 2018. 💬 Rafael worked under the supervision of Prof. Aljosa Smolic in the V-SENSE team, focusing on research in free-viewpoint video, 3D reconstruction, computer vision, and virtual and augmented reality.
Before joining Trinity College Dublin, Rafael Pagés worked as a Research Associate at Grupo de Tratamiento de Imágenes (Image Processing Group, UPM) at Universidad Politécnica de Madrid from September 2010 to October 2016. In this role, they worked on 3D shape and appearance reconstruction projects using multi-view camera setups and depth sensors.
Rafael Pagés also had a research stay as a Visiting Researcher in the Computer Graphics and Multimedia Group at RWTH Aachen University from November 2013 to March 2014.
Additionally, Rafael Pagés co-founded eyeQoala, a technology startup that focused on finding solutions to everyday problems using 3D technology. 💬 Rafael led experiments with Kinect for 3D video conferencing and 3D scanning, and the startup won the UPM's startup competition, actúaUPM, as the best business project created by students. 💬 Rafael'sinvolvement with eyeQoala spanned from April 2011 to May 2013.
