Hechen Bao

Scientist I (Neuroscience Research) at Voyager Therapeutics

Hechen Bao's work experience began in 2010 with an internship at ChemPartner. In 2011, they worked as a PHD Researcher at Shanghai Jiao Tong University, where they pioneered an in vivo electrophysiology pipeline and led the development of activity-dependent engram transgenic animals. Hechen then became a PHD Research Assistant (Visiting Scholar) at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 2014, where they investigated the MSDB circuit's role in regulating adult hippocampal neurogenesis and developed viral-based tools for mapping brain-wide circuit inputs.

In 2015, Hechen continued their research at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, investigating the circuit investigation of a DISC1 deficient schizophrenia mouse model and the role of 5HT1a receptor in neural stem cell development. Hechen also worked as a Postdoctoral Research Associate at the university, pioneering and investigating a DISC1 deficient schizophrenia mouse model, leading investigations of a 3xTg Alzheimer's Diseased mouse model, and investigating the role of 5HT1a receptor in neural stem cell development.

Hechen's most recent position was as a Scientist I (Neuroscience Research) at Voyager Therapeutics, Inc. starting in 2023.

Hechen Bao completed a Bachelor of Science degree in Biotechnology from Shanghai Jiao Tong University from 2007 to 2011. Hechen then pursued a Doctor of Philosophy degree in Biology, specializing in a field of study, from the same university from 2011 to 2018.
