Deputy Director For Quality at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center

Richard Langton, MD, MPH has a diverse work experience spanning over two decades. Richard began their career in the U.S. Navy as a Submarine Officer from 1997 to 2000. Richard then served as an Admiral's Aide at the Navy Recruiting Command from 2000 to 2002. In 2003, they joined the U.S. Navy Reserve as a Commanding Officer until 2005.

Dr. Langton went on to work as a Physician--General Medical Officer in the 1st Marine Division from 2010 to 2012. Following that, they served as a Resident Physician at the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences from 2012 to 2014.

From 2014 to 2017, Dr. Langton held the position of Chief Medical Informatics Officer (Navy) and Staff Physician at the Captain James A. Lovell Federal Health Care Center. During this time, they represented physician end users of medical informatics systems and led the Occupational Health Department.

In 2017, Dr. Langton joined the Fort Belvoir Community Hospital as a Staff Physician until 2020, concurrently working as an Adjudicator in the US Navy from 2017 to 2020.

In 2020, Dr. Langton took up a role as the Public Health Market Service Lead for the National Capitol Region at the Defense Health Agency. Richard also became the Deputy Director for Clinical Support at the Walter Reed National Military Medical Center during this time.

Currently, Dr. Langton holds the position of Deputy Director for Quality at the Walter Reed National Military Medical Center since August 2022.

Throughout their career, Dr. Langton has demonstrated expertise in various healthcare roles and leadership positions, with a focus on quality improvement and clinical support.

Richard Langton, MD, MPH graduated from the United States Naval Academy in 1996 with a B.S. in Systems Engineering. Richard later received their Doctor of Medicine (M.D.) from the Uniformed Services University in 2009. In 2014, they obtained a Master's Degree in Public Health from the same institution. In 2021, they completed a Master of Arts (MA) in Defense and Strategic Studies from the U.S. Naval War College. Additionally, Richard Langton has a certification as a Nuclear Engineer from Naval Reactors, which they obtained in 1999. Richard also holds a Graduate Certificate in Global Health from the Uniformed Services University, completed in 2021.
