Michael Brooks

Michael Brooks is an attorney and advisor who focuses their practice in the areas of energy, commodities, and derivatives law. Michael represents energy companies and commodity trading companies in a wide variety of regulatory, compliance, and enforcement matters.

Brooks has extensive experience advising clients on compliance with federal rules and regulations governing the trading, ownership, and transportation of energy commodities. In addition to representing clients in investigations and regulatory matters involving the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) and the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC), Brooks has conducted internal compliance reviews and trainings, worked with clients to develop effective compliance programs, and collaborated with commercial teams to structure large commodity transactions and acquisitions to comply with FERC and CFTC regulations.

Brooks also advises clients on the CFTC’s regulation of non-energy commodities, including agricultural commodities, and on the U.S. Federal Trade Commission’s (FTC) petroleum market manipulation regulations. Prior to their work in private practice, Brooks served as a Congressional Aide in the office of Congressman Bill Pascrell and as an American Government teacher in the Baltimore County Public Schools.

Michael Brooks attended George Mason University - Antonin Scalia Law School and earned their BA in Government from William & Mary.
