Gonzalo Rivero has a diverse work experience in the field of data science and statistics. Gonzalo has held various roles in different companies throughout their career. From 2013 to 2015, they worked at YouGov as a Statistical Scientist and then as a Senior Analyst. During this time, they focused on weighting and analysis of non-probability samples, report automation, and the development of tools for large-scale multilingual questionnaire assessment.
In 2015, Rivero joined Westat and served as a Senior Data Scientist until 2018. Gonzalo then transitioned into the role of Data Science Manager & Senior Statistician until the end of 2020. In these positions, they integrated machine learning and new data sources into research processes, served as a principal consultant for data science, and consolidated the technological stack for machine learning engineering used in the company.
In 2021, Rivero joined the Pew Research Center as the Associate Director of Data Labs. In this role, they led a team of researchers and engineers working on computational social research projects. Gonzalo set technical and methodological standards for data science and directed the modernization of the organization's data and analytical infrastructure.
Currently, Rivero holds the position of Director of Data Lab at the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA), starting in 2024.
Gonzalo Rivero holds a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree in Political Science and Government from New York University. Gonzalo has also obtained certifications in DevOps on AWS, Project Management Principles and Practices, and Leading People and Teams from Coursera. These additional certifications were obtained in 2020 and 2022.
