William Aguiar

William Aguiar has a diverse work experience in the legal field. William is currently serving as the Senior Vice President & Associate General Counsel at Waterton since January 2022. Prior to this role, they worked as an Associate General Counsel at the same company from January 2021.

Before joining Waterton, William served at the City of Chicago for a significant period. William worked in the Department of Law as a Senior Counsel from 2013 to 2017 and as an Assistant Corporation Counsel from 2003 to 2012. During this time, they represented the city in various litigations and provided advice on legislation and administrative actions. William also supervised assistant corporation counsels and managed paralegals.

In the City of Chicago's Department of Planning & Development, William held the position of Deputy Commissioner, Chief Operating Officer & General Counsel from 2017 to 2019. In this role, they managed the department's daily operations, including budget, finance, human resources, and legislative affairs. William supervised a team of employees and implemented special initiatives and programs.

Prior to their tenure at the City of Chicago, William worked at Much Shelist, P.C. as an Associate Attorney from 2001 to 2003. William also gained experience as an Associate Attorney at Schiff Hardin LLP from 1997 to 2001, representing clients in commercial, bankruptcy, and tort cases. William co-chaired the firm's pro bono legal clinic in collaboration with Chicago Volunteer Legal Services.

William Aguiar attended Colby College from 1986 to 1990, where they earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Government and English. Following this, they went on to enroll at The George Washington University Law School, where they pursued a Doctor of Law degree from 1994 to 1997. William Aguiar obtained their Illinois Bar certification from the Illinois Supreme Court in November 1997. In April 2019, they obtained their Oregon Bar certification from the Oregon State Bar.
