Thomas Tschickardt

Thomas Tschickardt has a diverse work experience in various roles. Thomas is currently the Head of Competence BIM-Management und -Coordination at Wayss & Freytag Ingenieurbau AG, starting in January 2022. Prior to this role, they worked as a BIM-Manager and Digital Construction Manager for the same company. Thomas also gained experience as a BIM coordinator and participated in the management company certification ISO 19650-1 and -2. Thomas has also worked as a Masterand in the staff unit BIM at Wayss & Freytag Ingenieurbau AG. Additionally, they are currently pursuing a PhD at Technische Universität Kaiserslautern, starting in December 2020. In the past, Thomas worked as an academic assistant at Hochschule Karlsruhe and as a carpenter at Jacobi Holzbau GmbH and Schefe Builders. Thomas has expertise in construction management, coordination, BIM, and carpentry.

Thomas Tschickardt's education history includes several degrees and certifications. Thomas completed their Doktor-Ingenieur (Dr.-Ing.) in Bauingenieurwesen at RPTU Kaiserslautern-Landau from 2020 to 2024. Prior to that, they obtained a BIM Professional certificate from Karlsruhe University of Applied Sciences in 2018. Thomas also earned a Master of Engineering (M.Eng.) degree in Civil Engineering from the same university from 2016 to 2018. Thomas previously pursued a Bachelor of Engineering (B.Eng.) in International Civil Engineering at Hochschule Mainz - University of Applied Sciences between 2012 and 2016. Additionally, they spent an exchange year studying Civil Engineering at Universiti Tenaga Nasional in 2014 and 2015. Before their formal higher education, Thomas gained a degree as a Zimmerermeister (master carpenter) at Handwerkskammer Mainz / Jacobi Holzbau from 2007 to 2010.

In terms of certifications, Thomas received several accolades and qualifications. Thomas was awarded the Best Paper Award EC3 2022 by the European Council on Computing in Construction in July 2022. In 2021, they achieved the 2nd Platz BIM Champions from buildingSMART Deutschland. In 2020, they received the buildingSMART International Award 2020 Special Mention. Earlier in 2019, Thomas earned the BIM-Award from the BIM-Cluster Hessen e.V. and also completed the buildingSMART Individual Qualification Basic Module from buildingSMART Deutschland. In 2019, they secured the 2nd Platz des BIM Preises der Virtuellen Akademie A6 from HOCHTIEF. Furthermore, they were honored with the Urkunde "Ausgezeichneter Abschluss an der Hochschule Mainz" by the Ingenieurkammer Rheinland-Pfalz in November 2016. Thomas was also a recipient of the Deutschland Stipendium from the Bundesministerium für Bildung und Forschung (BMBF) in both 2015 and 2014.
