Julia Zhang has a diverse work experience with a focus on data analytics and medical research. Their most recent position was as the VP of Data Analytics at the Workers' Compensation Insurance Rating Bureau (WCIRB), where they led medical analytics research on key COVID-19 issues and industry classification research. Prior to this, they served as the Managing Director and Director of Medical Analytics at WCIRB, leading projections of COVID-19 claim costs and building and managing a new medical analytics team. Julia also worked as a Medical Analytics Specialist at WCIRB, where they led research on the impact of opioid use and the Affordable Care Act on workers' compensation costs. Before joining WCIRB, they were an Analytics Consultant at the USAID Applying Science to Strengthen and Improve Systems Project (ASSIST). Julia has also worked as a Methodologist at The Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, leading epidemiological and statistical analyses on interventions to reduce risk factors of HIV/AIDS. Julia has a Ph.D. in Epidemiology from the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health and has experience as a Graduate Teaching Assistant and Doctoral Research Assistant at Johns Hopkins University, where they contributed to study design, implementation, and grant proposal writing. Julia has collaborated with the Malaysia Ministry of Health and led research teams in community and clinical settings.
Julia Zhang holds a Bachelor's degree in Economics from Wuhan University, which they earned in 2009. Julia went on to obtain a Master's degree in Social Policy from the University of Pennsylvania between 2009 and 2011. Julia then pursued their doctoral studies at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health from 2012 to 2017, earning a PhD in Health Systems. During the same period, they also completed a Master's degree in Biostatistics from the same institution.
