Jana Calkins has a diverse background in the field of journalism. Jana started their career as a reporter at WIBW TV in 1995, where they worked as a general assignment reporter and covered multiple stories per day. In 1996, they joined WDAF-TV FOX4 as a 10pm Producer and later became an associate producer for FOX4 News at 9/10pm. Jana then took on the role of Executive Producer -- Nightside at WDAF-TV FOX4 from 1999 to 2003. In 2003, they were promoted to Assistant News Director, where they focused on coaching, recruiting, and quality control for the WDAF-TV newsroom. Jana also served as the Executive Producer -- Mornings, overseeing the 4:30am to 9am newscasts, and was instrumental in making Fox 4 morning news the top-rated morning news program in Kansas City. Jana's dedication and experience have contributed to the success of the newsrooms they have worked in.
Jana Calkins completed their Bachelor of Science degree in Journalism from The University of Kansas from 1993 to 1996. Prior to that, they pursued the General/Global Studies Program at Dallas College (formerly Richland College) from 1991 to 1993. Later in 2000, they attended the Poynter Institute for Media Studies, where they participated in the New Managers in the Newsroom Seminar. No specific degree was mentioned for this seminar.
